Last year I wrote a piece about what was possibly the best job imaginable. Well now the Panda Nanny finally has a rival. The Monterey Bay Aquarium (of Monterey, California) is putting together a dedicated team of Otter Fluffers to help care for orphaned otter pups that would never survive on their own in the wild. They feed and care for the pups, and fluff their coats to keep them dry and buoyant.
When they mature they’re fully able to take care of themselves. But for now, many need extra help.
Other aquariums have done this sort of thing in the past. It looked like a lot of fun then too.
Although humans can never replace the love of a real otter mother, they do their best to fill in. Here’s what the pups would have experienced in the wild.
When it comes to animal rescue the goal is often to make the most out of a bad situation. The Monterey Bay Aquarium has helped over 700 otters in its program’s 30 year history. Maybe it’s time to update your resume?
