Do you consider yourself handy around the house? If something breaks, do you reach for your toolkit or your cellphone? Many times people teach themselves to be handy when they have no other options. If you can’t afford to hire someone to fix your furnace…well you still need heat. Can’t afford a plumber? Well, your family still needs water so get your butt down to Home Depot and start asking questions. But what would you do if you lost your house completely?
Cara Brookins and her 4 children found themselves in just this situation. After leaving an abusive relationship she had nowhere to live and not nearly enough money to purchase a house for her family. But she didn’t let that stand in her way. After realizing she could afford the building materials she went to YouTube for tutorials and advice. First she leaned how to lay a foundation. After that it was just a process of building a little at a time until the house was finished.
Cara has written a book about her experiences called, “Rise: How a House Built a Family”. Check the link below if you’re interested.
