Squids. The great leviathans of the deep places untouched and unseen by man. Like shadows from the past they glide through the murky depths with alien-like precision following invisible trails more ancient than the human race. Such creatures are the furthest thing from comical. Or so we thought. Meet the stubby squid.
This deep sea dweller is well adapted to his dark environment. Despite its name it’s not even a true squid but a closely related cephalopod cousin. All of the animals in its family have very well developed eyes and, as I’ve said before, at the bottom of the ocean it really doesn’t matter what you look like. Nevertheless its discovery had scientists aboard the research ship Nautilus in tears.
Don’t believe me? See for yourself.
Nothing like the wonders of science allowing us to explore our world so we can find exotic animals…and laugh at them. Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or in this case, the googly eyes.
