Sloths: Life In The Slow Lane

Out of all the strange and cute animals we share the world with, sloths seem to hold a special place in people’s hearts. Kristen Bell can’t even think about being in the same room with one without losing her mind.

But what makes them so adorable? Well, for starters they look like the most relaxed creatures on the planet. I think we could all learn a thing or two from their laid back attitude. Also, it doesn’t hurt that they’re basically harmless tree-hugging fluff balls.

Let’s start with a fact you probably already know: sloths are one of the slowest animals in the world. On land they can hardly move.
They tend to sleep about 10 hours a day.
They only leave their trees about once a week when they have to urinate and defecate. Once a week!
The sloth’s main predators are eagles, snakes, and jaguars.
These creatures are so sedentary that algae actually grows in their fur giving them some green camouflage.
The three-toed sloth is going extinct due to habitat loss.
Despite their slowness on land, sloths are actually pretty good swimmers.
They can live up to 40 years. Not bad for never exercising.
