The Talented Grace VanderWaal

Every once in a great while a performer comes out of nowhere and blindsides the world with their incredible talent. In an age of overproduced, oversaturated, and underwhelming processed music, it’s always a joy to witness a performance that aims at your heart instead of your wallet. When Grace VanderWaal set out to share her music with the world, no one would have imagined the impact she’d have. I realize that taste in music is notoriously subjective but I challenge anyone to listen to her performance and not be moved. Earlier this month she appeared on the hit show America’s Got Talent and made quite the impression. The results were…well…you really should see for yourself.

And to think it took her nearly 12 years to master her craft.
Her upbeat personality pairs well with the self-examining angst of her music.
Her ukuleles were crafted by the artisan Bruce Wei.
More of her music can be found on her YouTube channel.
Her covers are particularly powerful.
Even Simon Cowell was impressed calling her “the next Taylor Swift”.
Needless to say, she’s going to be a big part of this season.

Doing well on a TV talent show is really great but pales in comparison to having a strong and lasting passion for your music. I, for one, can’t wait to pick up her first CD.
