There’s an art to interviewing. It’s not as simple as just asking a few questions; not if you want to really connect with your interviewee and leave a mark on your audience. A week ago Carly Fleischmann debuted her YouTube based interview show Speechless With Carly Fleischmann. Her first guest was none other than Hollywood heartthrob, Channing Tatum. But I assure you, this was no ordinary interview.
Carly Fleishmann is only 21 years old and is already living her dream. What makes this even more impressive is the fact that she suffers from autism and is unable to speak. Despite this seemingly impossible hurtle, Carly goes on to give one of the most pressing and playful interviews in recent memory. She gets Tatum on the ropes and just doesn’t let up. There’s even a point in the interview where she pulls out two boxes that hold representations of his greatest fears.
Channing Tatum for his part comes off charming and welcoming (I know, big surprise). Tatum gushes about his 3 year old daughter, recalls his bad-boy past, and even gets around to talking a little bit about acting. What really sticks out to me is the way this interview doesn’t feel at all like a promotion. At no point does he bring up any new movies, books, colognes, or anything. The entire conversation has an air of genuineness about it. But don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself.
